The silence of God

Have you ever wondered why God is with us in the beginning, we walk with Him and feel His presence, but eventually we go in a period of drought, whereby our prayers are like crops with no rain. They don't seem to yield any results. Our seeking of Him continues, yet we seem to not be able to find Him. No matter our call, He is silent. He seems distant. We feel we are alone again in the battles of this life. But that's far from the truth.

I'm sure you have wondered why silence. After all, now that we are walking in His path we need His constant guidance. We need the comfort and reassurance that we are walking in His path. This is the time we really need Him. But that's not true.

Your search of Him gave you lots of knowledge. It made you strong and tough. It allowed you to understand God and ultimately find Him. Now that you have found Him, He will allow you to walk a period of time without Him so you can understand Him more. This is a period of time to build your character and understand your need of God.

It may be counter intuitive to think that God's silence is good for us. After all, why wouldn't I want the guidance of the ultimate master. But the answer lies deep inside our soul.

Think of silence as a period of personal development. It is a time of testing by God. This is the time to see our true character. Your striving was for you to find the truth; to find God, now God is wanting to know how long you are willing to strive for Him. This is a period where you will explore the darkest and deepest places of your soul. You will struggle and search for answers until you understand that He is always present. Know that silence is trust from God that we will succeed on the task at hand. It is through silence that we learn valuable life lessons and position ourselves for greatness that is destined for us.

His silence is really His gift to you. His silence prepares you for better and greater things to come. His silence is His way of building you character. You will ultimately understand the meaning of His silence when you mature in faith.

In every hardship there is a greater blessing

Thank those who abandoned you, for if it wasn't the loneliness you felt, you would not have returned to Allah in search of comfort and rescue. It was them who taught you that Allah is our only source of peace and comfort. Those people where there destined to steer you towards Allah. Be grateful you had the opportunity to seek Allah in the midst of confusion and loss. You lost human potential but gained divine presence. What a blessing it was!

─F.D

Reliance on Allah

”Woe to you! You run to one who would shut his door in your face, display his poverty to you and conceal his riches. And you leave the One who opens His door to you in the middle of the night and the middle of the day, who displays His richness and proclaims, ‘Invoke Me and I will respond.’”

— Wahb ibn Munabbih.

Good friends are there for you

They were my friends but they disappeared when I needed them. They left me when all my hopes were in them. They seen my struggles yet joked at my condition. Now they wonder why I'm not the same; they wonder why we no longer have the same relationship. They will never be my true friends. They are lost in the pursuit of this world. They compete, devote and strive for an hourglass whose value is diminishing and coming to an end. People are objects to them, and I was once them. Now I have Allah, my everything who never fails me. I have my eternal friend who loves me unconditionally. I am no longer them. My heart has received guidance. I love Allah's creation but I love Allah more.

I was lost until Allah guided me. I have been given knowledge of true life. Surely its not of this world. I no longer need the world. It has nothing to offer me but disappointments. My eyes have opened, my heart has cracked wide open, my ears are in tune to the true path. I now know that people are selfish. Its all about them. The true people whose hearts have been enlightened are about others. Those are the friends I seek and need, and Allah is above All. May Allah send in our lives true friends who will be with us in good and bad times, and who will be our guide to paradise. Ameen!

Allah constantly guides us

Every time I stray, I remember that Allah's mercy is greater than His wrath. I also know that Allah guides us always especially when we start deviating from the straight path. I am very thankful for the constant blessings and reminders of the almighty. May He keep us on the straight path when we stray and may he forgive us when we err.

The Qur'ân and Sunnah speak frequently and emphatically about the fact that a worshipper who repents and asks forgiveness for his sins will be forgiven and will not be asked about those sins again. In fact, Allah tells us that those sins will be exchanged for good deeds. Allah says: "Except those who repent and believe and work righteous deeds, for them Allah will change their evil deeds to good deeds, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." [Sûrah al-Furqân: 70]

So when you err repent to Allah. Know that if you are sincere in your repentance, Allah will surely forgive you. Surely, Allah knows best our condition and He is always just.

-F.D

Silence is the answer

Allah in His silence allows us to grow for the better things to come. Don't be in despair. He has heard your prayers. He is not going to do your walk, He will let you walk so you are better prepared to run when the calling comes. Trust His silence; Its His way of blessing you!

-F.D

Face each difficulty as an opportunity to greatness

Treat each difficulty and hardship as a calling from your lord to purify your soul and increase your ranks in the hereafter. The way you face and see each trial is half the battle. Realize that you cannot flee from trials, but you can pass all trials successfully with Allah's help. Know that each trial is an opportunity to get closer to Allah, for nothing in this world is more valuable than a moment spent in contemplation and worship of Allah. Oh Allah, give me eyes to see the benefits of each hardship, give me ears to only hear your messages in them, give me a heart to find contentment in your decree, and give me wisdom to turn hardships into blessings.

If we face each hardship with the realization that one, we cannot escape what has been destined for us, and two, that any hardship no matter how painful it may be, it is to better us for the hereafter, and that it was decreed by Allah because he loves us. If we keep those thoughts in the forefront of our head, we have won the battle inshAllah!

─F.D

Paradise is an uphill climb

The depth of the ocean is as deep as you are willing to explore it, similarly, paradise is as close to you, as you are willing to strive for it!

- F.D

There is no privacy between you and God

“There is no privacy between you and Allah. From above the seven heavens, He knows what is in your heart, before it is in your heart.” — Yahya Adel Ibrahim

So if you want a private moment, know that Allah sees and hears all things. Even if you commit a secret sin, He knows it, and even if you make a prayer in a stranded island─in the darkest moments, He sees you. He knows our inner thoughts, but does not judge us until we act, however He rewards us for our good intentions, even if we fail to succeed! Truly Allah is most-gracious, most-merciful!

─F.D

Your success is the result of God's will

All your blessings and success are the result of Allah's will. Your hard work is the fruit of Allah's guidance. Your aspirations are the result of his mercy. All that you are is because of Allah. Don't feed your ego, and don't corrupt your soul, because all that you have can be taken away.

Always remain thankful and offer your worship to Allah alone. And remember to help those in need, because you have been given without merit. It is obligatory upon each of us that we give to the poor. May Allah remind us when we become arrogant and stray from the right path by testing us with trials and hardships. Ameen inshAllah!

....LOVE ME TONIGHT?

As my mood faded from amazing to terrible, I excused myself from the company of people, my computer screen, and the background noise of the television. I'm sitting on my bathroom floor right now - balling my eyes out so hard that it takes a moment to catch my breath. I'm trying to be discreet, cause no one needs to share what I feel, or know this pain. Let them revel in their happiness. Let me suffer it all... alone. God is somewhere... somewhere in this little bathroom, so technically, I'm not alone at this moment. However, it seems an awful lot like it.
"It's just emotions, taking me over..."

So I'll sit here. On this bathroom floor mat. And cry myself to fatigue. I'm a half hour in, and my eyes still hold the atlantic. It's going to be a long night, believe me. But this isn't new. I'm prepared - I'm talking to an electronic device that won't talk back, and I have two rolls of tissue right beside me; 6 more in the bathroom cabinet just in case the night runs longer than two.

Living in the moment becomes impossible with all this fear; the fear of going back to a haunted memory. It could be as simple as intense loneliness, but it's taken my weight; it's taken my mind; and most importantly, it's taken my happiness. What's left is my sanity, and I'm afraid I'm losing that too. So there you go. It's fear. Fear that I currently feel and lament over. Fear that will become my reality in just a couple of days. 9 to be specific, but uhh, who's counting?
"Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars? I could really use a wish right now..."

Thought I'd end there but I'm 45 minutes in. Still here. Still crying. I should pray. God knows how I feel, but he should hear it from me. Yes? He should hear what this is doing to me; how it's chipping away at my sound mind. He should know that I'm slowly losing it. I mean, he does know already, but he needs to hear it. From me.
"...see I don't know how but power when I'm on my knees."

I took a moment to kneel at the feet of the Most High, but I didn't know what to say; I didn't know how to pray. I tried to just say how I felt, but words couldn't describe it. I tried to ask for what I needed, but I still don't know what that is. Exactly an hour in.

It's only the second of January. Didn't take long for 2013 to throw me a blow. I'm still crying. I'm still wondering. I'm still fearing. I'm still... praying. I should get under a duvet, shut my eyes, and attempt to get sleep's favour. Cause I'm 62 minutes in and I in no way feel better than when I started crying. Soooo, this isn't going to get better?
It's annoying how we can't choose what blows come our way. Then again, who really wants a blow? This is the hardest I've ever had to take. I have scars... and it's still wounding.

An hour and seven long minutes. Tears. Pain. Hurt. Fear.
Dear sleep, Love me tonight?

That's my attempt at capturing helplessness...as i do it.

The wisdom of being quiet

Learn to be quiet just as you learn to talk, because if talking guides you, being quiet protects you. By being quiet, you attain two characteristics: you are able to take knowledge from those more knowledgeable than you, and you are able to repel the ignorance of those more ignorant than you.

A brother like that

Shuaib received an automobile from his brother as an Eid present. On Eid day when Shuaib came out of his house, a street urchin was walking around the shiny new car, admiring it. "Is this your car, Uncle?" he asked. Shuaib nodded. "My brother gave it to me for Eid." The boy was astounded.

"You mean your brother gave it to you and it didn't cost you nothing? Boy, I wish." He hesitated. Of course Shuaib knew what he was going to wish for. He was going to wish he had a brother like that. But what the lad said jarred Shuaib all the way down to his heels. "I wish," the boy went on, "that I could be a brother like that." Shuaib looked at the boy in astonishment, then impulsively he added, "Would you like to take a ride in my automobile?" "Oh yes, I'd love that."

After a short ride, the boy turned and with his eyes aglow, said, "Uncle, would you mind driving in front of my house?" Shuaib smiled a little. He thought he knew what the lad wanted. He wanted to show his neighbors that he could ride home in a big automobile. But Shuaib was wrong again. "Will you stop where those two steps are?" the boy asked. He ran up the steps. Then in a little while Shuaib heard him coming back, but he was not coming fast. He was carrying his little crippled brother. He sat him down on the bottom step, then sort of squeezed up against him and pointed to the car. "There it is, little brother, just like I told you upstairs. His brother gave it to him for Eid and it didn't cost him a penny. And some day I'm gonna give you one just like it, then you can see for yourself all the pretty things in the shop windows that I've been trying to tell you about."

Shuaib got out and lifted the boy to the front seat of his car. The shining-eyed older brother climbed in beside him and the three of them began a memorable ride. That Eid, Shuaib learned what the RasulAllah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) meant when he had said: "love for your brother what you love for yourself".

God responds to your prayers

Praise is to Allah Who by His blessings all good things are perfected!

There is a time of night when work ends, traffic sleeps, and silence is the only sound. At that time while the world around us sleeps there is One who remains awake and waits for us to call on Him!

“Our Lord descends during the last third of each night to the lower heaven, and says: ‘Is there anyone who calls on Me that I may respond to him? Is there anyone who asks Me that I may give unto him? Is there anyone who requests My Forgiveness that I may forgive him?’”

[Bukhari: Book 2, Volume 21, Hadith 246; Muslim: Book 4, Hadith 1656

The broken cord

We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name,
In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.

You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide;
And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same;
But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.

Allah uses broken things beautifully

Broken clouds pour rain!
Broken soil sets as a field!
Broken crops yield seeds!
Broken seeds give bread!

In any difficult situation, if you feel that your heart is broken, please understand that Allah is planning to utilize you for some noble purpos
e.

The blessings of calamities

If with every calamity or misfortune you remain humble and remember God, than in it lies a great blessing. You are blessed with a reason to seek your creator. You are blessed with an opportunity to reflect at the situation at hand; to analyze your past life, and make changes to your future life. The longer this condition remains the greater the blessings will be. Don't view misfortunes as unpleasant no matter how difficult they are, rather, accept them and learn from them. Know that if all your calamities had been taken away, you would have taken a different course in life. You could have become neglectful and sinful. You must always learn to think positive. Whatever the will of God is, even if unpleasant in your situation, it is the best life for you now and for you in the future. Accept your destiny and make your dreams of your current situation a reality.

I believe that God has a flexible plan for each human being; a plan that allows that person to benefit the world with his/her unique talents. That is you. You are unique. Every circumstance has allowed you to impact others. God knows everything that has been created. Everything is fine-tuned with a great precision and timing. He uses your unique skills and talents to make a difference. He uses your circumstances to allow change to blossom. It is upon you whether to make a positive walk with every difficulty, or refuse to accept what has been destined for you. How you react to circumstances is how great you become. Remember, your life has been perfectly planned by God, as narrated In Saheeh Muslim (2653). It is narrated that 'Abd-Allāh ibn 'Amr ibn al-'Aas (may Allāh be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) say: “Allah wrote down the decrees of creation fifty thousand years before He created the heavens and the earth.”

You must learn to understand that God allows circumstances to shape our life. They teach us valuable lessons. He speaks to us through circumstances. If you want to understand God, you must learn to meditate on your circumstances. First you must understand His word the Qur'an. It is His universal message to all mankind. Then, reflect at the situation at hand to understand the personal messages of God to you.

Analyze you life. Why did something happen? Look at the situation and circumstances. If a situation causes you to analyze your life 360 degrees, than by all beans, that is God giving you reasons to understand your nature and improve upon. He is teaching you your flaws and your bad habits. It is when you understand yourself that you can take a leap toward positive change.

No person is blessed more than someone who chooses to listen to God. When you listen to God, you become great. You see a different world although nothing physically has changed. Its amazing when you acquire knowledge. It is as you have been given new eyes. You see and understand things like never before. That's how God works. He allows misfortunes to shape us. Through misfortunes we acquire knowledge and skills we did not have before. We don't get better eyes to see things, we get a better understanding of all the things we have been seeing.

Most of us have a passive mind. We will not understand until we become attentive to the calls of life. When we have a passive mind, we only sees what the heart desires. A heart that is attentive; a purposeful heart sees that which is even against His/Her desires. So if a misfortune allows you to see something you do not want to see, you have received the greatest blessing. This misfortune has given you a new insight in life. It has blessed you with knowledge you did not have.

May all your circumstances instill the love of God in your life and  to everyone you encounter. Ameen.

What does it mean to be bankrupt?

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) asked one group of his companions, “Do you know who the bankrupt person is?”

They said, “A bankrupt person amongst us is the one who has neither money nor property.”

The Prophet (pbuh) said, “The bankrupt person of my nation is he who would come on the Day of Resurrection with prayer and fast and givin
g great amounts in charity. And at the same time, he would come having abused this one, and slandered that one, and consumed the wealth of the other unlawfully, and shed the blood of yet others and having beaten others. Then any person whom he has wronged will be given from his good deeds on that Day. And if his good deeds are exhausted until he clears the account concerning all of the people he has oppressed, the sins of those people whom he has wronged will be thrown unto his account and after that, he will be thrown into the hellfire.” (Muslim)

The entire world has been struggling through an economic recession. Millions of people are out of work. People are losing their homes as we speak.

It’s difficult in these times not to fear for our financial security. It’s hard not to be consumed with worry; to wonder what will happen if our income disappears. For business owners, the threat of losing the business looms like a specter. For individuals driven to their knees by debt, it can seem like all options have evaporated. For all these people, an ugly ten-letter word threatens to unravel everything they’ve tried to build, and to brand them with the label of a failed life: bankruptcy.

I understand the fear of poverty, and the stress of financial insecurity. I am intelligent (Alhamdulillah), educated, versatile, and creative. I’ve written books, won awards, founded important websites, traveled the world. I’m raising a lovely child ma-sha-Allah. I teach martial arts as a hobby. I’m happy with what I’ve accomplished. But for some reason, financial “security” has almost always eluded me. I can’t say why. It could be that my choices have always been unconventional. I was never willing to focus intensely on standard career paths. I was never willing to settle for what I saw – rightly or wrongly – as mediocrity and meaningless drudge work, all in the name of pursuing the sacred cow of financial security, which I think is illusory anyway.

For a while in my late teens, I slept in an ice cream truck that I owned. I had several friends who were Palestinian college students, and I would often visit them during the day, at least partly so I could raid their fridges and get something to eat.

In my late twenties I was more stable, employed and living in my own apartment in San Francisco, which was no mean feat. I worked three different jobs at the same time, one full time and two part time. But I was often broke, especially in the days before payday. I’d buy large bags of oranges on sale. I had no cooking facilities in my tiny apartment, only a microwave oven, so I’d go to the Vietnamese restaurant below my house and buy a large container of steamed rice for $1, then turn it into three meals by eating it with canned beans or corn. Once a week the company I worked for bought pizzas for the employees. I’d wait until everyone was done, then scoop the leftovers into a plastic bag and take it home. I’d live off that leftover pizza for two or three days.

Sometimes I’d scrounge through the pockets of all my clothes, hoping to find an overlooked dollar bill, or maybe – Alhamdulillah! – a twenty!

Later, when I was married and lived in Oakland, we used to juggle the bills, every month trying to decide which bills needed paying most urgently. Oh, the bill is still white? Ignore it. We’ll wait for the pink one that means services are about to be shut off.

Even now it’s sometimes a struggle. Allah has always provided for me – Alhamdulillah – and I cannot complain, but I know what it’s like to have money worries constantly buzzing in the back of your mind like a swarm of killer bees, to the point where it’s difficult to think about anything else.

At one point in 2010 I considered filing for bankruptcy. But the filing itself was costly. Debtors might have challenged the filing, and even if it went through, my credit rating would have been ruined for years to come.

Alhamdulillah, I managed to stave off the crisis, and now things have improved. My income has increased, and most of my debt has been settled. I have managed to avoid the dreaded financial spook, the mark of the wrong road taken: bankruptcy.

Or have I?

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) in the revolutionary hadith I quoted above, redefined the meaning of bankruptcy. On the Day of Judgment, every human being will be weighed by criteria that have nothing to do with finances.

If I have abused another human being with my tongue or my hands, then I’m on the road to bankruptcy. If I’ve committed gheebah (backbiting) by mocking or criticizing someone in his absence, or if I’ve lied, or broken promises without cause, then I’m dumping my good deeds down the drain.

If I have stolen someone’s wealth, then I am making myself destitute.

If I have shed someone’s blood without cause, or beaten someone, then I have made myself a penniless wretch.

If I have done all of these things, then it doesn’t matter if I pray and fast and give sadaqah, I am bankrupt, bankrupt, bankrupt. I am spiritually void. I am given all my good deeds away and replaced them with evil, and I am utterly destitute.

And yes, I have done all of these things at some point in life, so I have much to fear, and I have not avoided bankruptcy at all, even if my wallet is full of money and my bank account is flush.

Things are not always as they seem, brothers and sisters. The eyes of the world deceive us.

Fear the true bankruptcy, the kind that dooms you before Allah! If you want to avoid that bankruptcy, and come before Allah as a rich man or woman, then prayer, fasting and charity are only the start. Abuse no one, backbite no one, insult no one, hurt no one, strike no one. Steal from no one, take advantage of no one.

Instead, be kind, and speak to people gently; be fair in everything, stand up for justice, and tell the truth. Act with love. Let Allah be your guide, and the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) your example.

Do this and you will be richer than any king or queen of this world.

ARE WE STILLLLL ON THAT?!

So, I know my Banky W fever is officially over, but there's no denying that he's a pretty good-looking man, makes wonderful music, and has a head that I want to rub when I eventually meet him. In the studio. Yeah, I said it. But all that aside, I grew a new dimension of respect for Banky about a year and a half ago. While replying fan tweets on twitter, someone tweeted him and asked, "Have you ever looked at your ex and wondered if you were drunk the entire relationship?" The question didn't earn my respect, but the answer did. "I look at my ex and wonder if SHE was drunk the entire relationship." That was Banky's reply. (Disclaimer - the words are not verbatim as they were written. Its been a year and a half. I can't retrieve the tweets.)

Anybody could have said that, yeah? Then anybody would have earned my respect. Unfortunately, anybody didn't. It's not rocket science to notice how the vast majority of people talk about their ex's. "If I saw my ex, I'd still hit that...with a bus." "Oh, I hear you're dating my ex. You want my sandwich too? Seems like you enjoy getting my leftovers." "I saw my ex's new girl/man. Such a downgrade." "Wow. He could have done better. She's so uglyyyy." The one quote about giving "used toys to the less fortunate" just makes me want to puke. Seriously, we're stillll on that?! Unfortunately, yes.

People fall in love, and people break up. You fall in love, and you break up. Every experience is a story that becomes part of the journey that you're walking. I don't understand why anyone would choose to remain in  shallow privative speech. Granted, not every relationship turns out the way we would want it too. Sometimes you end up getting a lot more hurt and pain than you would have ever bargained for in a short lifetime. But let's face it. There's going to be a girl that's prettier than you, one than has more money, one that wears nicer clothes, one that's more attractive, one that you wish you could be... and that may be the one your ex decides to date right after you. There's going to be a guy with a nicer six pack, a better car or job, a nicer personality, a lot more handsome, one who wears the best suits, wristwatches and shoes... and that may be the one your ex decides to date right after you.

Shit talking ex significant others does NOTHING for you. Take it, or well, leave it. I'm just rendering my opinion in space that i have created for that exact purpose. They may have done you dirty, but making them look bad through your speech for as long as you live doesn't undo what was done, and sooner or later, you begin to seem like a needy lowlife seeking unnecessary and unwarranted attention, just to prove that you got it all together and are better than the other person. It's okay to say things didn't end well, and explain why. What I greatly disagree with is all the negative talk about the persons choices, physical appearance, and just even life in general just because they are no longer with you. Seriously, ain't nobody got time for that. Live YOUR life, and although it could be hard as a hammer, try to move on. Try to stay positive and try to let your speech reflect that.

I haven't been in perfect relationships. So I'm not saying all this because I haven't been hurt by someone that I had feelings for. I mean, who hasn't been, right? But trust me, there are girls prettier than me with a lot more money, exposure, style, charisma, etc. And I'd be happy if my ex's hit a jackpot with one of those. I'd say I set a standard they had to beat, and be proud of them and wish them the best, hoping I find a jackpot of my own.

I would never have known how Banky W would reply that tweet. But he had a chance to tell basically the whole world that his ex girlfriend was shit, and he didn't. He put himself right back in her shoes. So I respect this man as an artist. But its so many of the little things that tell you who these people are apart from music. I may not know Banky on a personal level, but with just a few words, he earned a little more of my respect. I'd rub his head a second longer. :-)

Do you really have to put out someone's light to make yours shine brighter? Do you? Think about it.

That is stilllllll on that!... as i do it.
